"Claiming Lauren" by Emily Ryan-Davis

Claiming Lauren by Emily Ryan-Davis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I saw that this was an extremely short novella (38 pages), and that it was in the BDSM genre, I immediately jumped to the conclusion that I wasn't going to like it.  However, it was free from NetGalley, so I thought, "What the heck?"  Wow, was I surprised!

This story is about a high-society wife named Lauren, who is lonely and feeling trapped in her loveless marriage.  Her husband lives on a different continent, and they married only for business reasons, not for love.  She has turned to an online BDSM site to try and find some sort of outlet for her frustrations, and begins a 2-year virtual relationship with a man she knows only as Master.  Finally, she decides to take the plunge and meet with Master in person, to live out her desires to be a submissive.  One phone call to her husband Jake, and Lauren's fate is sealed - just not in the way she thought it would be.

Not only can Emily Ryan-Davis write exceptionally well, she can tell one hot story!  A lot of times in this genre I feel like it turns into straight up graphic porn.  Not in this book!  The sex scene was insanely hot, but in a good way.  Not too much, and definitely not lacking.  Plus, at the center of it all was a really sweet love story.  It was totally predictable, which is why I gave this book 4-stars, but it was also touching and heartfelt.  I would have liked to have a little more insight in to Jake's POV, but other than that, it worked.

Definitely worth the quick read!

One night should have been enough.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lauren Brant is the perfect society wife. She hosts dinners for her husband's colleagues. She attends charity functions. She's entirely appropriate...except for her clawing need to submit to a man she knows only as Master.

Unable to deny her cravings, she arranges to meet Master. No names, no faces, nothing but submission and sensation. Except it isn't enough. Even before the night ends, Lauren needs more.

But "more" isn't part of the arrangement and she returns to her polished life only to discover her estranged husband has come home. After five years of being invisible to Jacob Brant, Lauren doesn't know what to do with him. He, however, knows exactly what to do with her...
