Synopsis via Goodreads:
A dark New Adult romance. You have to understand that we never meant for it to happen. We knew it was stupid. We knew it was wrong.
Eighteen-year-old Danni Warren has big plans for her last summer before college: a cool job, a concert she wouldn’t miss for the world, and spending time with her beautiful girlfriend, Esme. But after one hell of an argument, Danni’s mother packs her off to stay with her estranged step-uncle, Gabe, in his lodge on the English coast. So begins a weekend of the worst punishment imaginable: no phone signal.
With his sun kissed good looks and sarcastic manner, twenty-nine-year-old Gabe Asher isn’t anything like Danni expected. She wants to hate him—he’s her punishment for standing up to her mother—but between surfing lessons and beach hikes, Gabe and Danni grow close. Maybe too close.
Now Danni’s questioning everything: old family secrets, her future, her strained relationship with Esme. One sun stained afternoon, Gabe and Danni go too far. And then everything else falls apart…

My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is definitely one of those that make you think, "Hmmmm...should I feel bad that I liked it that much?" From the synopsis of the book, I pretty much knew what I was getting into - an 18 year old girl who is sent to stay with her 29 year old step-uncle for a weekend as a "punishment," and ends up having a fling with him. Twisted, right? But, it actually felt like too much emphasis was placed on him being her step-uncle. For instance, Danni hasn't seen Gabe since she was a child. She has no relationship with him - it's not like he has been a constant "uncle" figure in her life. Plus, he's her step-uncle. They are not blood related. I know that there is still a social stigma and "ick" factor attached to their relationship, but I personally am not bothered by it. Even Danni's mom verbalizes the fact that Gabe is not really her uncle - therefore taking away the "incest" factor for me.
"Is that Uncle Gabe? I squinted at him in disbelief.Plus, I was really drawn into the sweetness of the love story between Danni and Gabe. They know that what they are feeling and doing would be considered wrong by their family, but their feelings are so strong for each other that they can't stop themselves.
"For the last time Dannie - he's not your uncle."
"But he's your brother - "
"Stepbrother. Lucky me."
“You have to understand that we never meant for it to happen. We knew it was stupid. We knew it was wrong.”The only part of the story that bothered me was Danni's hesitance to break up with her girlfriend, Esme. This is where I think Danni's immaturity and insecurity show. She begins to doubt Gabe's feelings about her, and so clings to what she is familiar with. And it's inevitable that Esme will be hurt - simply because it's inevitable that Danni and Gabe will be drawn back to each other.
“Resolve melted in the heat of our bodies and I loved that he gave in to me, to us, this thing we created without even trying. This thing we owned.”I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll just say that while I liked how the story ended, it seemed a little bit too easy to me. However, Lucy Morgan left the ending wide open for a sequel, so maybe that's where the stuff will hit the fan. I will definitely read the next book to find out what happens with Danni and Gabe. Can't wait!

About the Author
Lucy writes sharp contemporary fiction, usually with a liberal splatter of filth. She is a Lyrical Press author and a screenwriter.
Her upcoming new adult novel, TWISTED SUMMER, is a gutsy take on forbidden love starring an even gutsier heroine.
Her contemporary series, encompassing CHAIRMAN OF THE WHORED and THE WHORED'S PRAYER, features slick London lawyers with a penchant for sensual violence. It's definitely on the darker side. BEAUTIFUL MESS, her current release, is a snarky, sexy friends-to-lovers romp.
Lucy is currently working on new novels, and is developing a paranormal television series with producers (think The Vampire Diaries meets The 4400).
She is still trying to kick her dirty Pepsi habit.
