Summonari don’t trust. Under their command, they summon any number of creatures from the Otherwolds—but never trust them outside of the summoning.

Gargoyles don’t love. Fierce descendants of dragons, they function on power and fear—never love.

Karla isn’t the happily-ever-after type of girl. No territory-hungry guy is going to stick flags all over her unclaimed grounds.
Kann’s world is death and betrayal. As Dar Primus of Haus Varis, he’s expected to follow tradition but he’s not your regular gargoyle. In fact, he’s anything but.

One fateful Friday night, Otherworlds collide. Stuck together in one world or another, Karla and Kann face everything from Awakenings and turbulent love to Festnavals and bloodthirsty scorned suitors.
If there’s one thing they can’t escape, it’s the addiction to each other. And they’ve got it bad.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book had me hooked almost immediately. It falls under the genre of New Adult Paranormal, but this book definitely stands on its own. For one thing, I was in love with the whole premise of the book. It started out with such a unique and captivating idea, that I was sold. And then the characters and storyline just made everything better from there.

Book nerd Karla receives an ARC of the newest book in her favorite series for her birthday. Like any self respecting book nerd would do, she immediately changes into her jammies and curls up to read all night long. When she finally dozes off, she is dreaming about the super hot villain in the book, Kann, and sleepily wishes that he would come to her and make her feel at home in his arms. With that wish, and a small paper cut that leaves a smear of blood on the pages of her book, Karla unknowingly summons Kann from the Otherworld and straight into her bedroom. Ok, let's stop right there for a second and just take a moment to imagine how awesome, and crazy, this would be. If any one of us book nerds found out we had this ability, there would be super hot, alpha-male, book boyfriends stacked in our houses like cord wood, lol. We'd just pack 'em in! On the other hand, this situation could get really crazy and scary really fast. I mean, how many of us have had a serious book crush on a vampire, werewolf, or some other "other" species of hottie? I know I have, and I would not be able to control myself!! So, back to the book. Karla innocently summons Kann, the Gargoyle, into her bedroom and wakes up to a huge predator with razor sharp teeth and a bad attitude sitting next to her bed. And he is not happy that he has been summoned.

Since there are alternating POV's in this book (which I loved), we are able to know what Kann is thinking and feeling during this whole situation. He is pissed because he believes that Karla is a witch that has summoned him to her world to mate with him, and then control him to do her bidding. He is also pissed because he is immediately very attracted to her, and starts having weird feelings for her that Gargoyles are not supposed to have. Gargoyles don't have feelings like tenderness and love. They are hardened dominant beings that do not respect anything or anybody that they perceive to be weaker than they are. Kann can sense the waves of fear coming off of Karla, but instead of being repulsed, he is instead drawn even more to her.

I loved how Kann was not portrayed as the typical dreamy hunk that we usually read about in a romance (paranormal or otherwise). He is described as ferocious and deadly. A predator that hunts down a bear and eats it for breakfast. His skin is a blue-gray color, he has a mouthful of sharp teeth, and he is arrogant, rude, domineering, and sometimes just a downright ass. But he is also protective, and strong, and very, very sexy. Plus, once we fast forward in the story and Kann and Karla have been bound to each other as Numata, a whole different side of him begins to show. Our big, bad gargoyle falls in love with the little human, and there is nothing he won't do to keep her safe.

This story kept me captivated from beginning to end with all of the plot developments and twists and turns. Plus, I loved the character of Karla. She has a very sarcastic and irreverent sense of humor, and she had me laughing out loud several times. She may be a weak little ole human, but she is not afraid to go toe to toe (at least verbally) with Kann and anyone else that gets in her way. And Kann, of course, turns out to be everything that you could want for in a book boyfriend come to life. I loved seeing the change that he made from book villian to real life hero.

I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one! This is definitely one of my favorite new series!

  1. Sounds like a really entertaining read with a great pacing. I'm glad you liked it, Jessica!

  2. Thanks for being part of the tour, Jessica, and I'm happy you enjoyed the read :)

  3. I am so glad to see someone else agreeing with me on Kann. Having an overbearing, obnoxious, arrogant, sexy beast was a step up for me. A refreshing change after all the sweet, thoughtful romance heroes of old.

Thank you so much for your comment! I read each and every one of them, I swear. :)
