This book was great. You should read it.
Wouldn't it be awesome if that was a satisfactory review? Lol. Sometimes when I finish reading these books that I loved, I have a hard time writing the review. Believe me, I want to spread the word and turn on new readers to the book and help promote the author and all of that, but secretly I'm a little scared that I won't do it justice. That my review will be boring, or repetitive, or badly written, or any one of a hundred reasons that will make a potential reader say, "I'll pass." So forgive me if I wish I could just say the two sentences written above. Anyway, I guess I'll just get on with it! ;)
Erica is a just graduated Harvard alumni that is the founder and operator of Clozpin, an online social/fashion site. She founded it with her best friend Alli and the programmer Sid - also students at Harvard. They have been making just enough money off of the site to help pay living expenses while still in college, but now that they have graduated, the pressure is on to find the funding that they need to expand and continue growing their business. The story starts with Erica pitching her business to a room full of businessmen at Angelcom, hoping to snag an investor. What she didn't plan on was being interrogated and shut down by a very handsome billionaire investor by the name of Blake Landon, that she had very recently ran into at a local steakhouse. And by ran into, I mean literally ran IN TO as she was exiting the restaurant and he was entering. It was only a moment, and a fleeting spark, but it left an impression on Erica. And apparently on Blake. Blake arrogantly asks her about her personal life during the business meeting, and then proceeds to pass on investing in her business. Luckily, Max, a friend of one of Erica's Harvard professors, is still interested in hearing more details, and sets up a future meeting with Erica to go over more in depth details.
I will say that there is a lot of business talk in this book, but I liked it. It gave the story a sense of reality, plus I think that it helped build Erica's character. After all, she is a no-nonsense type of girl who is determined to get her business up and running, and to turn it into a major success. This ball-busting side of her is ultimately what leads her to be able to have a relationship with Blake, and what I believe attracts Blake to her in the first place.
After the business meeting, Blake sets his sights on Erica. Even though she is furious with him for how he treated her during the meeting, she can't deny the extreme sexual attraction she feels for him. And over the course of the story, we find out that yes, Blake has a possessive, controlling, dominant side, but he is also a very protective and gentle man when he needs to be. He is definitely a new favorite book boyfriend of mine.
And I loved the fact that Erica was not stupid or shallow, or any of the other things that seem to plague a lot of female main characters these days. She did not let Blake walk all over her, and she did not turn over her entire life and business to him without questions. She made him earn every ounce of her trust and love, and I thought it made the story that much better.
I could go on and on about how great of a story this was, but I don't want to spoil anything for you. I do want to say that this story was definitely multifaceted. While the main plot revolved around Erica and Blake and their relationship, there were also a lot of side stories going on that were every bit as interesting. For instance, I can't wait to find out what was really going on with Allie and Heath (Erica's best friend and Blake's brother), and to read more about them. Sid and Cady also sound promising. Plus, there were a couple other surprises, both good and bad, that definitely deserve a little more page time.
Overall, I loved it. I can't wait for book #2, Hardpressed to become available. I will be downloading it immediately!

About the Author:
Meredith Wild picked up her first romance novel at the tender age of twelve, and shortly after put pen to word processor and made her first attempt at writing a love story inspired by those she so enjoyed reading well past her bedtime.
Her dream of writing took a back seat to college, parenthood and eventually entrepreneurship, which led her into the fast-paced and male-dominated high tech industry. With enough life experience for a few lifetimes, she now devotes her hours to writing contemporary adult romance, with a hint of kink.
Her debut novel Hardwired tells the story of billionaire bad boy, Blake Landon, and the object of his obsession, strong-willed tech startup CEO, Erica Hathaway. Hardwired will be the first of the Hardwired Series, while writing is underway for the second installment, Hardpressed.
When she isn’t writing or mothering, Meredith can be found sunbathing with an adult beverage.
