Book Review: Stay With Me by Elyssa Patrick

Title: Stay With Me (With Me, #1)
Author: Elyssa Patrick
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

Stay With Me was one of those books that you don't want to put down until you've read every last page of it. As soon as I picked it up, I was hooked. And I stayed that want to the end.

The story is about THE Hailey Bloom. She is an 18 year old child star who has been acting, singing and dancing since she was a baby. Like, literally. When she was one, she was the Gerber baby. By the time she was six, she was performing on Broadway. Then came movies, music, television shows, the works. But with all of the mega fame came mega pressure, and Hailey began to push back against what her Manager/Mom wanted her to do. Her mom wanted Hailey to be sexy, enticing and always pushing the envelope. She didn't care if Hailey made bad decisions, as long as it got her more press and exposure. When Hailey had finally had enough, she gave her mom an ultimatum and walked away from everything. Now, Hailey is trying to start over at a small college in Vermont, and get back the life that she feels like she has always been missing. She just wants to be normal. She wants to go to college and hang out with friends, and feel like a regular person for once. But, it's not going to be easy when every person that sees her on the street knows exactly who she is.

Then at a party one night, she meets Caleb Fox. He seems sweet and charming, and not at all starstruck. He sees her instead of the image that everyone else thinks is her. Caleb makes it clear that he wants to see more of Hailey, and that he likes her, but Hailey has sworn off men. She wants to find her own way for a while, and figure out who she is now that she doesn't have her mom telling her who to be. But the attraction that she feels for Caleb just won't go away. I loved the chemistry between the two of them, and how it wasn't just an insta-love scenario. Caleb and Hailey had to work for everything that happened between the two of them. Caleb tried to respect the boundaries that Hailey thought they needed to have, but in the end, they just wanted each other too damn much.

Once Hailey gives in and accepts the fact that Caleb has gotten under her skin (and maybe into her heart), she then has to worry about what he will think when he discovers the secret that she has kept from him, and the rest of the world, for years. But when Hailey's evil mom (seriously, she's a bitch) appears on a talk show and spills Hailey's secret, Hailey is convinced that things are over between her and Caleb. Caleb has to decide if he's willing to overlook Hailey's past mistakes and her baggage, and if he loves her enough to try and make it work.

The pacing of the story was great. I was engaged from page one and never got bored or felt like the story was lagging. The chemistry between Hailey and Caleb was off the charts, both sexually and emotionally. Caleb was a swoonworthy book boyfriend if there ever was such a thing. He is absolutely perfect. Not only is he f**king hot, he is also sweet, considerate, kind and extremely level headed. And the things he does to Hailey....OMG. Plus, we also get to see a very cute "big brother" side to him when we see him interact with his younger sister, Daphne. He is super protective of her ever since she nearly died in a car accident a couple of years ago, and now that she is a Freshman at the same college he is at, he tends to watch over her closely. Hailey and Daphne become best friends, so it makes the story a little bit sweeter. (As a side note - I REALLY hope that book #2 in this series is about Daphne and Nick, or that their story is coming very soon!)

Overall, I loved this book! I had no complaints about it whatsoever, which is rare for me. And I absolutely can't wait to pick up the next book in this series, because all of the characters were that great. I can't wait to see what happens to them all.
