Book Review: Behind His Lens by R.S. Grey
Author: R.S. Grey
Genre: New Adult Romance
Twenty-three year old model Charley Whitlock built a quiet life for herself after disaster struck four years ago. She hides beneath her beautiful mask, never revealing her true self to the world... until she comes face-to-face with her new photographer — sexy, possessive Jude Anderson. It's clear from the first time she meets him that she's playing by his rules. He says jump, she asks how high. He tells her to unzip her cream Dior gown; she knows she has to comply. But what if she wants him to take charge outside of the studio as well?
Jude Anderson has a strict "no model" dating policy. But everything about Charley sets his body on fire.
When a tropical photo shoot in Hawaii forces the stubborn pair into sexually charged situations, their chemistry can no longer be ignored. They’ll have to decide if they’re willing to break their rules and leave the past behind or if they’ll stay consumed by their demons forever.
Will Jude persuade Charley to give in to her deepest desires?
**Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual situations.**
Behind His Lens by R.S. Grey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was great, and I really enjoyed reading it. However, it had a bad case of been there, done that. By that I mean that the plot line was pretty much identical to every other New Adult romance I have read this year ---- There are two damaged people with troubled pasts that meet each other randomly. They fall into insta-love and then struggle thru the entire book by pushing each other away and justifying why they can't be together because they are so damaged. However, they can't fight the attraction between them, and slowly, piece by piece they heal each other enough that they are able to make a future together. Sound familiar? This book was just like that: wash, rinse, repeat.
But, I can definitely say that this was one of the books that executed the above formula very well. R.S. Grey is a great writer. The characters were well developed, the pace of the book was good, and the details that made the story original were intriguing. For instance, the main characters, Charley and Jude, were a high fashion model and a fashion photographer. Even though the glimpses into that world were somewhat brief, they were very entertaining. And the events in Charley's past were a good deal more traumatic than what a lot of the suffering heroines have had to deal with in other books. I loved the method with which she finally forced herself to deal with her demons. Also, as a fair warning, I also need to say that the sex between Charley and Jude was super HOT!
Overall, I did really enjoy reading this book. Maybe it's just a case of "it's me, not you" and I just need to give myself a break from this genre for awhile. If you are a fan of New Adult, and in the mood for an entertaining read, I definitely recommend Behind His Lens.
